The Department of Public Administration at the University of Ilorin was established 2014/2015 academic session in the Faculty of Management Sciences to address the growing need for skilled professionals in public service. Since its inception, the department has focused on delivering quality education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The department has the following programmes: B.Sc. Public Administration, Master in Public Administration (MPA), Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration (PGDPA), M.Sc. and Ph.D. Public Administration.
It aims to prepare students for effective leadership and management roles across various sectors, including public, private, and non-profit organizations. Over the years, the department has continually evolved its curriculum to incorporate contemporary issues in governance and public administration, fostering critical thinking and research skills essential for addressing societal challenges.

The undergraduate degree course in Public Administration will generally develop and impart education and training which would facilitate the evolution of a class of skilled manpower with required competencies ready and able to super intend all facets of national life. It is the expectation that such competently trained professionals will provide the needed linkage between different levels and units of government, and between the public and the private sectors of the national and international economies. In specific terms, the programme is designed to:
